The award was instituted in the year 2015 to promote ethnic culture in the state as a tribute to the name of legendary 'Dhuliya' Moghai Ojah.
Mahanta is also a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
This award carries a cheque of Rs. 25000, a citation, and a memento.
Srijanasom, a charitable trust that institutes the awards, was established with a drive to promote Indian art and culture and to provide services in education to the underprivileged. Along with cultural events, Srijonasom has also given financial assistance to a few penurious schools to continue their curriculum with an unhindered routine.
This year, the organisation has also announced two new scholarship schemes - Srijanasom Siksha Sarothi and Srijanasom Siksha Praj - to support economically marginalized students to help pursue their education.(ANI)
