Imphal (Manipur) [India], December 1 (ANI): Manipur trade and expo centre exhibition that was organised as a part of the Sangai festival in Imphal's Hapta Kangjeipung, provided hundreds of small artisans and weavers an opportunity to showcase their products to international buyers.

The expo was organised by Manipur government's Department of Textiles, Commerce and Industries to promote the local produce at an international platform at the newly inaugurated Trade and Expo Centre.

Managing Director of Textile, Commerce and Industries Department, Joykumar Singh said, "This is the new venue constructed under the Department of Textile, Commerce and Industries of Manipur. This new venue has varieties of opportunities and showcased the products of the artisans. It has also an entertainment session performing by various artists from across the state".

Over 1,000 stalls were set up which included 48 stalls from foreign countries, 25 stalls from other states and 40 stalls sponsored by the National Small Industries Corporations (NSIC).

The remaining stalls were occupied by the artisans and weavers of the state.

A trader from Egypt, Kamal Anwar said, "Sales are very good. I sell everyday and people understand the quality of the products".

Products like home decor items, processed organic fruit items and wooden crafts, were exhibited at the fair. The exhibition brought the sellers and buyers under one roof.

A visitor Phijam Sanatombi Devi said, "The festival is looking nice. From outside, the venue seems to be quite long but when we enter it, we feel something and find different types of stone and colours also very nice".

With an aim to provide livelihood and to promote the traditional artisans and craftsmen of the state, the Manipur government had earlier launched "Mission on Economic Empowerment on Traditional Artisans and Craftsman". (ANI)
