New Delhi (India), March 8 (ANI): Google on Friday celebrated International Women's Day 2019 with a collection of inspirational quotes across various languages by thirteen international female trailblazers.
The Google Doodle opens to 11 colourful dialogue boxes with the word ‘woman’ written in 11 languages, including Hindi, Bengali and Urdu.
Once you click on the doodle, a box pops up featuring different quote that one can scroll through.
According to Google, “Connecting to the larger theme of women empowering women, the quotes were also designed by a talented group of female guest artists from around the globe.”
The quote that topped the slide show list is attributed to Dr Mae Jemison, American astronaut and physician.  “Never be limited by other people’s limited imagination,” it says .
The slide show also features two quotes from India. One by Indian boxer Mary Kom, which reads, “Do not say you are weak, because you are a woman,” and another by NL Beno Zephine, who beca

me India's first visually challenged diplomat.

“We are too precious to let disappointments enter our minds,” reads Zephine’s quote.
The origin of International Women's Day goes back to February 28, 1909, when the erstwhile Socialist Party of America organized a Women's Day in New York. Two years later, the International Socialist Woman's Conference suggested that the day should be celebrated annually.
The first time this event was celebrated on March 8 was in 1917. This was after women in Soviet Russia finally gained suffrage. The day was henceforth declared a holiday in Soviet Russia and was eventually adopted as an internal event by the United Nation in 1975. (ANI)
