When Melania outshone black-clad Democratic women in white

Washington D.C. [USA], Jan. 31 (ANI): While Democratic women wore black during U.S. President Donald Trump's first State of the Union on Tuesday, First Lady Melania Trump dressed herself in stark contrast by wearing an all-white suit.

The first lady's custom Dior suit appeared to have been inspired by the suffragettes, as last year, members of the party wore all-white, a colour favoured by the suffragettes.

Suffragettes were women, who in the late 19th century in Britain initiated a movement to seek right to vote and to have their say in political matters.

The Democratic representatives showed solidarity with the #MeToo movement and aimed to make a statement in support of women impacted by sexual assault and harassment.

It was their way to respond to a speech by a president who has been accused of sexual misconduct by several women. (ANI)
