Every OLX transaction is making environment little bit cleaner

New Delhi [India] Nov. 11(ANI): Every time one uses OLX, the environment gets benefitted. Every time one sells products on OLX, the life of that product gets extended ensuring more judicious use. Every time one buys on OLX, one less item gets produced, lowering carbon-di-oxide (CO2) emissions. Just how much CO2 is one saving by using OLX, you might want to know? In the last one year, OLX India transactions have directly curbed 3.3 million tons of CO2 emissions, equivalent to 57 percent of Indian domestic aviation sector's carbon footprint. It is also equal to the CO2 emissions that 132 million trees absorb annually, and 6.25 times the emissions replaced by the Delhi Metro every year. This, and more, has been revealed by an exclusive OLX Report done in conjunction with Ahmedabad-based Center for Environment Education (CEE), which is supported by Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, Government of India. Amarjit Singh Batra, the CEO at OLX India said, "Every time you use OLX, you reduce your carbon footprint and ensure more sustainable consumption. On the occasion of World Environment Day, we want more people to adopt 'Resell-Reuse-Reduce', which is at the core of OLX's philosophy. Every OLX usage results in bringing value into your lives, while giving something invaluable back to the environment. It is a win-win situation for everyone. Every OLX user should take pride in making our planet a little bit greener and less toxic, and on the behalf of our future generations, Iwant to thank each one of them." Select insights from the report were released early this year. The report covered OLX transactions for the financial year 2015-16. All stages in the life-cycle of a product until it reaches the user were taken into account for some of the most traded product categories on OLX. Inclusion of all product categories traded on OLX would have resulted in a significantly larger CO2 equivalent. Kartikeya V. Sarabhai, Director, CEE, added, "Extending the life of a product is an essential strategy towards sustainability. In India we have an old tradition of passing on goods. Transforming this tradition to the internet age, and making it commercially viable is a wonderful example of leapfrogging to a sustainable lifestyle." (ANI)
