Mayawati distressed due to increasing support for PM post demonetisation: Pradhan

New Delhi [India], Dec. 26 (ANI): Taking strong exception to Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati's remark stating that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stands no chance in winning the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls post demonetisation, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday asserted that the people's faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi has only increased after the "historic decision". Speaking to ANI, Pradhan said the former chief minister is deliberately misleading people and is distressed at the huge turnover of crowds who are gathering at the BJP's rally. "We can understand Behenji's (Mayawati) pain. A new kind of economic initiative was taken under demonetisation due to which the people's faith increased on Prime Minister Modi," he said. "It is obvious that Mayawati is distressed at the moment given the fact that the BJP has been getting huge turnovers of people's gathering in its rally. There is a sense of fear and panic in the opposition camp," he added. Addressing a press conference earlier today in Lucknow, Mayawati asserted that not even one-fourth of the promises made by the BJP during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections have been fulfilled till date. The BSP chief said people are frustrated with the saffron party as a result of which the Amit Shah-led party has realised that they stand no chances in Uttar Pradesh. Mayawati alleged that demonetisation is an inappropriate decision to benefit the rich and said that the BJP has now realised that this drive has become a bone of contention. "90 percent of the people have not overcome the obstacles post demonetisation. The people will teach them a lesson," she added. Mayawati also said that Prime Minister Modi made false promises like Samjawadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and said that the BJP won't be victorious in the upcoming state assembly polls. (ANI)
