New Delhi (India), Feb 4 (ANI) A BJP delegation including Union ministers Nirmala Sitharaman, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Rajya Sabha MP Bhupendra Yadav met the Election Commission on Monday over the ongoing political slugfest in West Bengal.
The TMC-ruled state became a boiling pot after a 5-member CBI team moved to arrest Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar on Sunday in connection with the chit fund scams, but was denied entry to the police chief's residence and subsequently detained.
After that, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee started a sit-in protest along with her ministers.
In the wake of the CBI move, several opposition leaders accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of misusing central agencies to target them.
With Union minister Chaudhary Birender Singh threatening the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government by hinting at President's rule in the state, the political row has only compounded.
"In interest of wanting free and fair environment in which Lok Sabha polls can be conducted, we have come to bring to the notice of Election Commission certain happenings in West Bengal which have complete cooperation of the TMC. Instances we highlighted point out that the TMC doesn't believe in democracy,"Sitharaman said. (ANI)
