Five defence personnel honey-trapped by enemy spies in 2 years: Bhamre

New Delhi (India), Feb 04 (ANI): Five defence officials were honey-trapped by the foreign intelligence operatives in the period between 2015 to 2017, Minister of State (MoS) for Defence Subhash Bhamre informed Rajya Sabha today.
As per the information provided by the Minister, three personnel including two from Army and one from the Air Force were apprehended in 2015 whereas two more Army personnel were arrested in 2017 in similar cases.
“Service personnel and their families are regularly sensitized on the use of honey traps as a modus operandi by foreign intelligence operatives. Advisories have been issued to all concerned,” Bhamre said.
He said that special attention is being paid to new entrants in training institutes.   Simultaneously, regular intelligence liaison with other agencies is maintained to detect such attempts.
In the recent past, there have been cases including that of an Air Force Group Captain who was honey trapped by a foreign operative through social media and he was leaking information to her On social media.
Another jawan was arrested by the Army intelligence in Jaisalmer after he was found to be in touch with a Facebook account profile of a Pakistani spy who was drawing information from him in exchange of money.
A BrahMos employee was also arrested for the same charges last year at the Nagpur plant of the missile firm. (ANI)
