Ludhiana (Punjab) [India], Mar 7 (ANI): Kartar Kaur Sangha, 118-year-old, has registered her name in the Guinness World Record to become the oldest person to be operated upon, doctors at Satguru Partap Singh Apollo Hospital here confirmed on Thursday.
Kaur was admitted to the Satguru Partap Singh Apollo Hospitals on the intertwining night of February 24 after her blood pressure dropped to 22-24 beats per minute (BPM). To elevate her blood pressure, a temporary pacemaker was positioned by the doctors in her heart.
On February 28, after her condition became stable, a team of doctors headed by the Cardiologist Ravinder Singh implanted a permanent pacemaker in her heart.
“To operate at this age was a challenge for us but she is doing fine. According to the Guinness World Record, a 107-years-old from Lucknow holds the record for being the oldest person to receive pacemaker implantation. We have now applied for both the Guinness Book of World Records & Limca Book of Records,” said Ravinder Singh.
It is pertinent to mention that Kartar Kaur Sangha is also the oldest living person in the world, beating the record of 116-year-old Kane Tanaka from Japan.
“Kartar Kaur is eligible for this world record as her younger brother claims to be 116 years old. It became clear to me when I sifted through his Army retirement papers from 1945. Her family claims that she is two years older than him. We are confident that she has broken the record for being the oldest living person to be operated upon. I’m proud of her for being strong,” he added.
Talking to ANI, her 90-year-old daughter Baljinder Kaur said, “My mother has seen five generations in our family. I would like to mention that this is the first time she has been admitted to a hospital because of a major problem. Otherwise, she has remained healthy her entire her.” (ANI)
