Professor GD Agarwal died of cardiac arrest: AIIMS

Rishikesh (Uttarakhand) [India], Oct 11 (ANI): All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh on Thursday informed that Professor GD Agarwal suffered a cardiac arrest.
Dr. Brijendra, AIIMS Media Coordinator said, "He suffered a cardiac arrest. He was on an indefinite hunger strike and wasn't taking anything orally since very long. He was old and also had some heart diseases. Around 2:15 in the afternoon he suffered from heart-attack, doctors made many efforts but he could not be saved."
Dr. Brijendra also informed that medicines were given to him intravenously after he refused to take oral medication.
"He was not taking anything orally. We conducted some test as soon as he was brought to the hospital and based on his medical condition, he was administered a potassium and heart-related medicine intravenously when he was brought here", he added.
Professor GD Agarwal, who was on an indefinite fast in Haridwar since June 22 in a bid to urge the government to clean river Ganga passed away on Thursday.
A number of leaders cutting across party line expressed their grief over Agarwal's demise. Taking to his official Twitter handle, Prime Minister Modi said, "Saddened by the demise of Shri GD Agarwal Ji. His passion towards learning, education, saving the environment, particularly Ganga cleaning will always be remembered. My condolences." (ANI)
