New Delhi [India], Nov 26 (ANI): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Monday warned Union Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) over the visit of former Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir where he met separatist leaders.
Swamy warned the MEA to take “corrective action” over Bondevik’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir or he would demand the resignation of the person concerned who initiated the visit for former Norwegian Prime Minister.
Taking to Twitter, Swamy said, “Either MEA comes out with corrective action on the Norwegian ex-PM visit to J&K or I will have to demand the resignation of the person in the bureaucracy who initiated this visit.”
Bondevik on Friday paid ‘surprise’ visits to top separatist leaders in J&K including Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umer Farooq.
National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah also expressed concerns over Bondevik’s visit.
“What are the Norwegians up to in Kashmir? Would either @SushmaSwaraj ji or Doval ji care to put the visit of the former Norwegian PM to both sides of the divided state in the correct context or do we have to rely on rumours & conjecture?” Omar tweeted.
Speaking on the matter, former J&K Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah urged the central government to clarify Bondevik's purpose of visit, saying he couldn't have come if they didn't want him to. He also asked if the government will hold talks with the separatists.
"The government of India knows, he couldn't have come if they didn't want him to. So he has been there, he has talked to separatists, we do not know what talks have taken place, what is going to be the efect of it. The government of India must explain on what initiative did he come, what will be the outcome of it and whether they (government) will also talk to separatists, that is more important," Farooq said.
