Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Mar 29 (ANI): A social activist and transgender Mahamandaleshwar Bhawani Nath Valmiki on Friday joined the Aam Admi Party (AAP) in the presence of MP and party's UP in-charge Sanjay Singh. She will contest from Prayagraj Lok Sabha seat.
"I have not come to defeat anyone. I have come to win. Our issue is unemployment," she said.
Singh said, “We have already seen the derogatory Transgender Persons Protection of Rights Bill, 2016 brought in the Parliament. I hope that Valmiki wins the parliament seat and represents and speaks for the rights of the community.”
He added that fielding Valmiki proves that the party has the utmost respect for the transgender community in the country.
The party has also declared the names of candidates for three more seats in Uttar Pradesh--Engineer Ajit Sonkar from Lalanganj Lok Sabha seat, Anjum Saini from Sambhal, and Ashutosh Brahmachari from Kanpur. (ANI)
