New Delhi [India], Mar. 05 (ANI): The Congress on Sunday lambasted the Haryana Government over Sakshi Malik's claim, saying that if they made promises for cheap popularity they should fulfill it when the time comes. "Nobody asked them to make that (announcement), but to gain cheap popularity you make promises, announce declaration then when the time comes, you must honour them and stand by them. And especially by a sportsperson who belongs to your state," Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi told ANI. Emphasising on the importance of encouraging sportspersons, Singhvi said it is sad and frustrating if the government does not deliver its promises. "Nobody asked the Haryana Government to make a promise, to make a declaration, but if they have suo motu decided to make a declaration, a promise, then I think it's extremely sad and frustrating and very weird in fact, that they are not obeying it, not implementing it," he said. The Rio Olympic bronze medallist yesterday lashed out at Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel, Haryana's Sports Mnister Anil Vij and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar for not delivering on their promises made after her incredible feat in the Rio Olympics. The BJP-led Haryana Government had announced a financial award of Rs 2.5 crores as well as a government job for Sakshi after her Rio feat. The state government had also declared that she would be appointed the Wrestling Director at Maharshi Dayanand University in her native Rohtak. Chief Minister Khattar had also announced Malik as the brand ambassador of the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' initiative in Haryana. However, by the looks of it, it doesn't seem that the state government has delivered on their performance. "Medal ka vada maine pura kiya, Haryana sarkar apna vada kab pura karegi? (I fulfilled my promise of winning an Olympic medal for the country, when will Haryana government fulfil its promise?)," tweeted Sakshi. "Announcements made by Haryana Government after my OLYMPIC MEDAL win were for MEDIA ONLY ?.(2/2)@cmohry @anilvijminister @VijayGoelBJP," she added. Sakshi become the first woman wrestler in India to win an Olympic medal with her bronze in the 58 kilogram freestyle event. (ANI)
