Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], Mar 21 (ANI): All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Oommen Chandy on Thursday refuted CPM’s allegations that the Congress party has entered into a secret deal with the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in five seats.
This comes in response to the Communist Party of India-Marxist's Kerala Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan's recent allegation that the Congress and BJP had formed a secret tie-up.
Chandy said, “Kodiyeri Balakrishnan made such a statement due to his fear of defeat because UDF has fielded very strong candidates in all the constituencies. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) is afraid of our performance in the upcoming election.”
Stating that the upcoming election is a fight between the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress President Rahul Gandhi, the former Chief Minister of Kerala said, “Directly or indirectly, the Congress Party and the United Democratic Front (UDF) have no connection with the BJP. The next parliamentary election will be the fight between Rahul Gandhi and PM Modi.”
Further, he said, “Rahul Gandhi is taking the lead to unite democratic and secular forces to fight against Narendra Modi and the BJP.”
There is no compromise as we stand by the idea of democracy and secularism, Chandy added.
Kerala, which has 20 Lok Sabha seats, goes to polls in a single phase. All the 20 constituencies will vote in the third phase on April 23. (ANI)
