Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), Jan 26 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Friday expressed deep anguish over educated youth picking up guns and joining military organisations and said that violence should not be taken as a path to address any issue.
Delivering a speech here on Saturday, Malik said, “It is a matter of deep anguish that a number of youth, some of whom were pursuing professional studies were influenced by extreme ideologists to pick up a gun and join groups which perpetuate violence. This has added to the difficulties and sufferings of the people particularity in the valley. It is a sanguine belief that violence and confrontation approach is no antidote to address any issues.”
Without naming any country, he also lambasted the neighboring country for supporting terrorists and disrupting peace.
“Our neighboring country continues to support terrorists to disrupt peace and harmony in the state. Repeated attempts by infiltrating terrorists across International Border and Line of Control (LOC) and repeated ceasefire violations have brought untold hardship to people living on the borders. The government however is taking required measures to alleviate the suffering of the border population,” said Malik.
Governor Malik also hailed armed forces for neutralising large number of terrorist in the past year and said, “Our Armed and Police Forces carried out effective operations to neutralize the largest ever number of terrorists in a year. We salute the brave army and police jawans who have offered supreme sacrifice for maintaining peace and tranquillity in the state.”
Outlining the huge turnout in the recent concluded Panchayat and municipal elections, he said that it is an indicator of people's yearnings for peace and development.
Asserting that it is everyone’s collective responsibility to curb violence he said, “A number of precious innocent lives have been lost due to mindless and dastardly violence. As I said earlier as well, our heart goes out to the bereaved families who have lost their dear ones. We have to find ways to remove such ugly scars of violence forever from our beautiful landscape by strengthening the discourse of peace. This is our collective responsibility and can be discharged only with active cooperation and support of our people. It can be discharged only with active cooperation and support of our people.”
