Haryana [India], May 17 (ANI): The Haryana gram panchayat on Wednesday said that they are all set to rename a sports stadium from Rajiv Gandhi Khel Parisar (sports complexes) to Shaheed Bhagat Singh Khel Parisar. Haryana sports minister Anil Vij told ANI, "In our country, everything has been named either after Gandhi or Nehru and even within Haryana, quite a lot of stadiums have been named after the Gandhi dynasty. It was government's decision earlier to rename the sports complexes but later on the autonomy was left solely with the gram panchayats," said Vij. Vij also said that the gram panchayat came up with the idea of renaming stadiums on behalf of the martyrs. "The proposal was put forward and seventy-eighty percent of the people mutually concurred to the renaming of the stadium as Shaheed Bhagat Singh Khel Parisar," Vij added. Vij further said that the panchayat also came up with the provision that the renaming can be done either on behalf of the national martyrs or the region's local martyrs or heroes as well. (ANI)
