Ernakulam (Kerala) [India], April 3 (ANI): The anti-corruption wing of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested an inspector of the Income Tax Department while accepting a bribe of Rs. five lakh. On Friday, the accused, Dinesh K.K. landed in the custody of the CBI following a complaint by Dr. Sabine S., consultant in infertility and laparoscopic surgery and owner of Sabine Hospital at Pezhakkapilly. The police said the IT officer carried out an inspection at the hospital on December 9, 2016 and demanded a bribe of Rs. 10 lakh for alleged 'favours' done to the hospital. As the complainant refused to pay the bribe, the amount was reduced to Rs. five lakh. Based on a complaint, the CBI laid a trap and gave the hospital authorities a bundle of chemically treated currency notes for paying the bribe. The bribe amount was later recovered in the presence of an independent witness. Following the arrest, the CBI team conducted a search at the residence of the accused. A case has been registered and investigation is underway. (ANI)
