Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], May 16 (ANI): Kolkata Police has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged vandalism of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar's bust at Vidyasagar College here during BJP president Amit Shah's roadshow on May 14.
The SIT will be headed by Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police (North).
BJP and Mamata Banerjee-led TMC have blamed each other over the vandalism of Vidyasagar's bust.
A prominent social reformer in West Bengal, Vidyasagar has over the few days come under the spotlight.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday promised to build a grand 'panch dhatu' (traditional five-metal alloys of sacred significance) bust of Vidyasagar at the same spot where the old one stood before it was vandalized.
Chief Minister Mamata publically denied the proposal by asserting that her state has got enough money to rebuild the structure. (ANI)
