New Delhi [India], Mar 10 (ANI): In a veiled attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP government, senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel on Sunday said that the ensuing Lok Sabha elections will herald a new era as "five years of chaotic, despotic and destructive dispensation will finally conclude."
"The 2019 elections will herald a new era. Five years of chaotic, despotic and destructive dispensation will finally conclude. India can once again return to a path of sobriety, integrity, and inclusivity," Patel told ANI.
"As the world’s largest democratic process begins, we must strive to maintain and enhance its sanctity and integrity. The strict adherence to the Code of Conduct is non-negotiable. The desperation of some should not be allowed to undermine this historic exercise," Patel, Rajya Sabha MP, from Gujarat said.
Taking a jibe at Modi's "Acche Din" slogan, Patel said: "NDA-2 will be the best remembered for wasting its historic mandate in the pursuit of petty benefits for a handful of individuals, by imposing a heavy cost on the entire nation. For five years, India waited, but 'Acche Din' never came."
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday announced the schedule for the 17th Lok Sabha election, which will be held in seven phases beginning April 11. The final phase of voting will take place on May 19. The counting of votes will be done on May 23. (ANI)
