TMC demands CBI probe in fraud chit funds

Agartala [India], Feb.23, (ANI): Thousands of Trinamool Congress(TMC) supporters took part in a rally here against the ruling Left Front (LF) essentially over a demand of investigation for a CBI investigation of the Rose valley chit fund issue. The TMCsaid, only a CBI inquiry of can unearth involvement of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar who they claimed had been promoting non-banking financial institutes, popularly known as chit funds and duping lakhs of depositors in the state. TMC youth leader Sushanta Choudhury said, "Some 142 chit funds were active in Tripura, and the chief minister of the state along with various ministers, ruling CPIM party, MLAs and leaders took part in various programmes organised by different chit funds and acted as their brand ambassadors." "This had encouraged people to deposit money which brought credibility for these chit funds and had duped around fourteen lack depositors of the state with a total amount of Rs 1172 crores," Choudhury added. Local TMC MLAs and leaders along with West Bengal MOS Panchayat and Rural Development Shyamal Santra, and MLA Sukanta Mahato took part in the protest rally that was stopped by a huge contingent of police and deployed by paramilitary force. Other demands of the TMC were the rising crime against women, unemployment, state government employees deprived from the seventh pay commission and few more. (ANI)
