Kalaburagi (Karnataka) [India], Mar 6 (ANI): Former Congress MLA Dr Umesh Jadhav on Wednesday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here in the presence of former Chief Minister and BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa.
Jadhav had submitted his resignation to Vidhan Sabha Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar on Monday. Dr Jadhav, a two-time MLA from Chincholi constituency, was reportedly upset with the party for not giving enough importance to other leaders of Gulbarga district.
Jadhav along with three other MLAs, Ramesh Jarakiholi, Mahesh Kamatihalli, and B Nagendra, was disqualified after they were found guilty under the Anti-Defection law.
It is learnt that BJP is planning to field Jadhav against senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge from Gulbarga seat in the coming Lok Sabha polls.
Later, addressing a rally with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the stage, Jadhav said: “We have to write a new history. This is a fight between a common, simple MLA and a big leader. We need your support. We will tell how development works are done.” (ANI)
