Jalandhar, July 20 (ANI): Former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA from Jalandhar Cantt and former Indian Hockey captain Pargat Singh on Wednesday alleged that the SAD is a party surrounded by sycophants (chamchon) and brokers (dalals), adding that even if the party withdraws his expulsion, he won't return to the Akali fold. Holding a press conference after his expulsion from the SAD, he said: "If it's wrong to raise your voice for the people's right, then I have committed that wrong." Taking a dig at Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, Pargat said, "If I have been expelled from the party for that mistake, then I think he is not in the correct mental state." When asked whether he would return to the SAD fold if his expulsion was revoked, Pargat said he won't. When asked about his relations with former BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, he said the former Indian cricketer was his friend, however, ruling out that he had held a meeting with him in the recent past. Pargat also maintained a minute's silence to express his grief over demise of former Indian hockey captain Mohammad Shahid, who died at the Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon on Wednesday. (ANI) In a statement, the Akali Dal said the decision to suspend Pargat was taken by party president Sukhbir Singh Badal in consultation with senior members of the party. Pargat Singh and lawmaker Inderbir Singh Bolaria were suspended for allegedly indulging in ant-party activities. (ANI)
