Cape Town [South Africa], Apr 27 (ANI): South Africa batsman Hashim Amla has decided to remain unavailable for the Cape Cobras’ remaining fixture of the CSA T20 Challenge, saying he wants to ‘fine tune’ his batting for the upcoming World Cup.
“I have opted not to make myself available for selection for the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras for the remainder of the CSA T20 Challenge. I express my sincere gratitude to the Cobras coaching staff and team for the game time over the last 3 weeks, given the circumstances,” Sport24.co.za quoted Amla’s statement.
"Ultimately, I want to use the remaining time before the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup to fine tune my batting and prepare for the tournament,” the statement added.
Amla was included in the South Africa 15-member World Cup squad which was announced on April 18.
Amla has been struggling for form over the past year. However, his experience was hard to rule out for the selectors. Hence, he found a spot in the squad.
The 36-year old has been a valuable player for the South African team, as he is just 90 runs away from touching the 8000 runs milestone in the ODI format.
South Africa will face England in the World Cup opening match on May 30. (ANI)
