Dubai [UAE], Feb 14 (ANI): Australia wicket-keeper and batter Alyssa Healy insists that her generation is lucky to be involved in the women’s cricket at an important time in its history.
Healy, who was adjudged Player of the Tournament in the 2018 ICC Women’s World T20, claimed her first Belinda Clark Award alongside ODI and T20I player of the year at the Australian Cricket following a stunning year with bat and gloves at international level.
"That is one of the most special parts of our careers at this moment, that we are building something special for girls not only this country (Australia) but around the world," ICC Cricket 360 quoted Healy, as saying on Thursday.
"To see the way that everyone has embraced women's cricket over the last 12 to 18 months – there is no better time to be playing women's sport in this country and especially women's cricket. We are right at the forefront of that and we are really driving that cultural shift in the country," she said.
The 28-year-old smashed 329 runs at 54.83 in six ODIs, with a best of 133 — her maiden international hundred against India.
With the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 scheduled to be hosted in Australia, Healy said defending their title in front of home crowd will be exciting.
Talking about her performance, Healy, who played a crucial role in Australia’s victorious World T20 last year, said: "It is something I will look back on at the end of my career and be proud of. I have really cashed in on some form that I have found. Hopefully, I can maintain that!"
ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 is scheduled from February 21 to March 8, culminating in the final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on March 8, which marks International Women’s Day. (ANI)
