London [UK], August 2 (ANI): Former Atletico Madrid manager Javier Aguirre has been appointed as the new head coach of Egypt.
The 59-year-old replaced Hector Cuper, who left the position following the team's poor performance in the recently-concluded 21st edition of the FIFA World Cup, goal.com reported.
The Egyptian team were knocked out of the World Cup in the group stage as they failed to win any of their matches in the tournament.
Newly-appointed coach Aguirre, who was a member of the Mexican squad at the 1986 World Cup, has guided his national team to the last-16 as a coach in 2002 and 2010 FIFA World Cup.
He also led the United Arab Emirates (UAE) club Al-Wahda to UAE President's Cup and UAE League Cup before stepping down in May last year.
Meanwhile, Aguirre's main challenge will be to guide the Egyptian squad for their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign. (ANI)
