California [United States], December 28 (ANI): Starting 2019, Apple may begin assembling premium iPhone models in India. The assembling will be carried out by partnering with the local branch of Foxconn.
According to The Verge, Apple has been assembling iPhones in India since 2017, beginning with the iPhone SE and iPhone 6S, but the new partnership is expected to see the premium line of iPhone models such as the iPhone X getting assembled within the country.
Assembling in India would benefit Apple which has been long wooing the Indian government for tax relief on certain smartphone components. The government has now placed higher tariffs on the import of smartphones while cutting down on component rates to encourage its Make in India initiative. (ANI)
