Toronto [Canada], Apr. 24 (ANI): A 25-year-old suspect, accused of mowing down pedestrians with a van in a busy Toronto street, has been charged with 10 counts of first-degree murder.
The accused driver, identified as Alek Minassian (25)-- a resident of Richmond Hill, Ontario is also facing 13 counts of attempted murder, the local media reported.
According to several media reports, the accused Driver Minassian, who was arrested, less than 30 minutes after police received a 911 call, appeared before court wearing a white jumpsuit and with his hands cuffed behind him in the prisoner's box.
His next court appearance will be a bail hearing on May 10, CNN reported.
As per Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders, the incident appears to be a deliberate act by the truck driver.
"It's very clear just from a general perspective to say that the actions definitely look deliberate", Saunders told CNN.
The Toronto van rampage claimed at least 10 lives and leaving over a dozen others injured.
The motive behind the attack is yet unclear.
Earlier on Tuesday, Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his condolences on the death of the victims. (ANI)
