Alabama [USA] Nov 25: Hoover Police have admitted having mistakenly killed the wrong person in Alabama mall shooting on Thanksgiving evening.
People were hiding in stores and food court area while shooting was underway.
Police informed the public that they had secured the entire mall and the gunman had been shot dead. Police had also allegedly injured two people including a girl, who was later taken to the hospital for the treatment of their bullet wounds.
The Washington Post had earlier reported that Hoover police officer was praised for his duty.
The person who was mistaken as the gunman, identified as EJ Bradford, was a medical student and lived a few miles away from the Alabama mall.
"New evidence now suggests that while Mr. Bradford may have been involved in some aspect of the altercation, he likely did not fire the rounds that injured the 21-year-old victim," said the Hoover police officer while announcing the further investigation.
At first, police described the incidence as a fight between the teenager and Bradford that turned into the gunfire and during which a girl standing nearby was shot.
According to The Washington Post, EJ Bradford was a medical student and a spokesman for the Army said that he "never completed advanced individual training" and never served. The mother of the deceased shared her pain and demanded justice. (ANI)
