Beijing [China], October 18 (ANI): Chinese President Xi Jinping has vowed to make China a "great modern socialist country" as its 19th National Congress started on Wednesday.

Speaking at the opening session, Xi delivered a report highlighting the achievements in reforms in various sectors and socialist modernisation over the five years of his government.

Xi also outlined a two-step approach to build China into a modern socialist country after the completion of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects by 2020.

"We must regard as our goal the people's aspirations to live a better life," said the Chinese President as reported by China's official news agency, Xinhua.

Top leaders of President Xi's Communist Party of China are huddling up in Beijing for the critical once-in-five years party congress.

Established in 1921, The Communist Party of China (CCP) is the founding and ruling political party of the People's Republic of China. (ANI)
