New York [USA], Feb. 21 (ANI): A police officer, while responding to a car crash incident, was shot dead on Monday in Whittier, Los Angeles, according to investigators. They further said that a second officer was wounded in the same. According to Fox News, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said that the two officers were responding to what they believed was a traffic accident in Whittier, when a gang member began firing. Lt. John Corina told reporters that the suspect, who was driving his car, rear-ended other cars that were waiting at a stoplight. Corina further explained that the suspect then got out of his car and asked one of the people he hit, to help push his car. When police arrived, the suspect started firing. Both the surviving officer and the suspect are in stable condition, police informed. Excluding this incident, 16 law enforcement officers were killed on the job in 2017, which is a slight increase from 2016, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. Few of the killings involved firearms. (ANI)
