Gulshan terror attack mastermind killed in Bangladesh

Dhaka [Bangladesh], Aug. 27 (ANI): Tamim Chowdhury, the mastermind of the deadly July 1 terror strike on the popular Holey Artisan Bakery in the suburban Gulshan area of Bangladesh capital Dhaka, and two other militants were killed during a raid on a militants' den in the Paikpara area of Narayanganj town on Saturday morning. Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit chief Monirul Islam has confirmed the deaths of the militants, reports the Dhaka Tribune. Narayanganj Assistant Superintendent of Police Faruk Hossain said that law enforcement agencies had been conducting the drive since this morning. A joint team of the CTTC unit, RAB and district police started the operation at the three-storied building at 9.36 a.m. on Saturday and had cordoned off the building before launching the raid. The operation is still underway and the joint force and the militants are exchanging gunshots frequently. According to sources, the law enforcement agencies are conducting the drive following the information taken from the arrestees involved in Gulshan incident. The Holey Artisan Bakery attack has been described as Bangladesh's worst terrorist attack in Dhaka's high-security diplomatic zone, as it claimed the lives of 22 people, mostly foreigners. (ANI)
