London [UK], Feb 5 (ANI): The United Kingdom believes that British journalist John Cantlie, who was taken hostage by ISIS in 2012, is still alive and being held by the terrorist outfit.
Ben Wallace, UK's Security Minister confirmed the news with reporters in London on Tuesday, according to CNN. When asked about the status of British hostages worldwide, Wallace put forth that the UK does not believe in paying a ransom and actively discourages other countries from doing the same.
Cantlie has appeared in scores of propaganda videos made by the ISIS as a roving reporter, ever since he was kidnapped while covering the conflict in Syria seven years ago.
The photojournalist is one of the most prominent in his field, having covered few of the most volatile conflict zones around the globe including Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Libya, and Syria.
Furthermore, Cantlie has been twice abducted in Syria, both in 2012. He, along with Dutch photojournalist Jeroen Oerleman, was rescued by the Free Syrian Army on the first instance in July 2012. However, he was taken hostage by ISIS again in November 2012 and is still believed to be under their captivity seven years on. (ANI)
