Istanbul [Turkey], October 27 (Sputnik/ANI): Russian President Vladimir Putin is meeting in Istanbul with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan before the quadrilateral summit on Syria, a Sputnik correspondent reported from the scene on Saturday.Putin arrived in Istanbul earlier in the day and went to the Vahdettin Pavilion, an estate which belonged to the last sultan of the Ottoman Empire, Mehmed VI Vahdettin. The summit of Russian, Turkish, French and German leaders is scheduled to begin there on 3 p.m. local time (12:00 GMT).This is the first meeting on Syria in this format. Before the quadrilateral talks, meetings in bilateral formats will be held.It is assumed that following the results of the four leaders' talks, which will take about three hours, they will make a statement to the press.Experts believe that the meeting in Istanbul should be regarded as Turkey’s desire to establish a new discussion platform at the international level on the issue of Syrian settlement.
