Washington DC [USA], May 9 (ANI): US President Donald Trump on Wednesday condoled the death of an 18-year-old student, who died in a shooting in a suburban Denver school and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
Taking to his Twitter handle, Trump lauded first responders for their "brave" intervention and said the administration is in "close contact" with the authorities.
"Our Nation grieves at the unspeakable violence that took a precious young life and badly injured others in Colorado. God be with the families and thank you to the First Responders for bravely intervening. We are in close contact with Law Enforcement," he tweeted.
18-year-old Kendrick Castillo was killed and eight students were injured after two suspects opened fire at STEM School Highlands Ranch on Tuesday.
The shooting began just before 2 pm (local time) and the suspects "got deep inside the school" and opened fire at the students at two separate locations.
School authorities informed the police as soon as the incident unfolded. The students were immediately evacuated to a safer area.
Police later apprehended the two suspects and sent them to custody.
"There is an 18-year old male suspect in custody as well as a juvenile female suspect," according to Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock.
The injured are undergoing medical treatment in different local hospitals in Denver. However, Castillo succumbed to his injuries later.
An eyewitness told CNN that the 18-year-old student died while rushing a shooter and credited him with saving several lives.
Meanwhile, one of the suspects, identified as Devon Erickson, 18, appeared in a court on Wednesday. During the hearing, prosecutors argued for more time for the investigation to continue before filing charges against the accused.
Erickson, who maintained a low profile throughout and kept his head lowered for much of the hearing, was ordered not to contact with the victims.
The suspect is now scheduled to make another court appearance on Friday (May 10).
It is still unclear whether the other suspect, a female juvenile, will make a court appearance or not. (ANI)
