Addressing a gathering on the occasion of his facilitation ceremony organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association, Justice DY Chandrachud appreciated his predecessor CJI UU Lalit for taking concrete steps towards making a listing of matters more transparent.
The court gave the accused a benefit of doubt and directed to set free the accused forthwith if not required in any other case.

Lauding CJI Justice UU Lalit, Chandrachud said that Justice Lalit has raised the bar for the Chief Justice and that he has large-size shoes to fill as the next Chief Justice of India.
"It was not proper for the High Court to entertain a PIL which is based on mere allegations and half-baked truth that too at the hands of a person who has not been able to fully satisfy his credentials and has come to the Court with unclean hands," the court said.
CJI Lalit said that his journey in the Supreme Court began by mentioning a case before Justice YV Chandrachud and now he passes the baton to his son, DY Chandrachud.
Today's verdict of Supreme Court is a setback in the century-long struggle for social justice, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin said.
