Persistent depression alters brain

Updated:9 months, 2 weeks ago IST

New Delhi, Feb 28 (ANI): Constant depression changes the brain in humans. According to a research conducted by Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, brain witnesses changes due to prolong depression, making us think about how depression progresses. The study depicted that untreated depression over the years shows more brain inflammation compared to those who had less than 10 years of untreated depression. In the study, brain inflammation was measured using a type of brain imaging called positron emission tomography (PET). When microglia are activated, they make more translocator protein (TSPO), a marker of inflammation that can be seen using PET imaging.
