New Delhi, Oct 07 (ANI): To mark the 103rd birth anniversary of 'Mallika-e-Ghazal' Begum Akhtar, Google today dedicated a doodle to her. The doodle sees her playing a sitar at the centre, with fans all around applauding her art. Akhtar, who was born in Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh in 1914, was a renowned Indian singer of Ghazal, Dadra, and Thumri genres of Hindustani classical music. Apart from singing, Akhtar also acted in several films, the most notable being Satyajit Ray's 'Jalsaghar'. She has received several awards, including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for vocal music and, posthumously, the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan. She is regarded as one of the most veteran and revered Ghazal singers in India and has thus been given the monicker, of Mallika-e-Ghazal. The renowned singer passed away in 1974 and was buried in her home Pasanda Bagh in Lucknow. On this day, we indeed miss her melodious voice but find solace in the fact that she remains alive in the beautiful compositions that she left behind.
