Himachal Pradesh High Court has earlier directed both the government and the Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) to file their suggestion in the use of the building. Court last year directed the government to put the heritage building for the use of public. The Town Hall Building was built in 1908 on the mall road, the heart of the city. This building used to be the office of SMC. The SMC has handed over the building to the tourism department in 2014 for renovation and restoration of the rich heritage of the capital town of Himachal Pradesh.
