Congress suspects foul play by BJP in Alok Verma’s transfer

New Delhi, Jan 11 (ANI): Alok Verma was on Thursday removed as the CBI Director on account of the “extremely serious nature of observations made by the CVC against him”. The decision to remove Verma was taken by the Selection Committee, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and comprising Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge. Congress leaders came down at the shifting stance on Verma’s divestment from his post at CBI, his reinstatement and his final transfer to the Fire Services Department. Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister, Sachin Pilot said that, “There is something murky going on which needs to be investigated, the Congress party has already objected to it. Something is very suspicious about all this.” Adding to the already boiling issue, Congress leader and spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi said, “Hurried decision shows desperation level to ensure he gets out of the way as he was going to probe Rafale scam. In his dissent note, he (Kharge) has mentioned the loopholes in the manner in which constitutional norms were bypassed by government.” The sources claimed that the CVC allegedly found evidence of influencing of investigation in the Moin Qureshi case. There was also allegedly evidence of Verma taking bribe of Rs. 2 crore, the sources claimed. The CVC was of the view that Verma’s conduct in the case was “suspicious,” and there was a “prima facie case” against him
