Cyclone Ockhi: Central team visits affected areas to assess damages

Kochi (Kerala), Dec 28 (ANI): A team of disaster management experts, assigned by the central government to assess the losses sustained by the inhabitants in the coastal area and harbor, took a tour of Kochi on Wednesday. They visited the Munambam and Thoppumpady harbors and coastal areas like Kannamali, Chellanam and Vypin. The central team comprised of Beach Erosion Director to central water Commission R.Thankamani and Central drinking water department Assistant Adviser Sumit Priyadarsisni. Before conducting the inspection, the team met with various department heads of the region. Ernakulam district collector Mohammad Y saffirulla demonstrated a briefing about the losses sustained by the fishermen community and other people living in the affected area. District collector handed over the report prepared by the district authorities to the central team. The team also took stock of the information from the fishermen who were rescued from the sea.
