Google Doodle pays tribute to Urdu writer Ismat Chugtai

New Delhi, Aug 21 (ANI): Google Doodle paid tribute to eminent Urdu writer Ismat Chugtai on her 107th birthday on Tuesday. Popularly called the ‘grande dame of Urdu fiction’, she was born in Budaun, Uttar Pradesh on August 21, 1911. She was a fearless writer , who wrote on subjects like female sexuality, femininity, middle-class gentility, and class conflict at the time they were considered a taboo. Her best-known works questioned double standards and encouraged liberation. They include short story ‘Lihaf’ (The Quilt), ‘Gainda’ among others. She was an eminent voice in the 20th century Indian literature.
