High alert on Jammu-Srinagar Highway after suspicious terrorist attack

Nagrota/ Udhampur/ Jhajjhar Kotli (J&K), : The Jammu and Kashmir police swung into action after getting information about a firing incident at Jhajjar Kotli in Jammu. Due to the incident, high alert on Jammu-Srinagar Highway has been sounded. The police put up blockades and started checking all the vehicles on the highway. Police officials along with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are present on ground. Rayees Bhat, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Udhampur said, “We got an incident of Jhajjhar Kotli and we have been alerted and as per the alert we have put up a blockade. According to information we have, some gun shots have been heard. Our officials are verifying the situation.” Informing about the incident, Vivek Gupta, SSP, Jammu said, “A particular naka was passed by a vehicle. The search was made and the vehicle was chased before it was stopped. When the search was started there were some fire shots. Subsequently militants managed to escape. The operation is on.” One AK and three magazines were recovered from the intercepted truck. Driver and the conductor were taken into police custody. Two to three suspected militants, who ran away from the truck, are being chased. Police, Army and CRPF have been activated. Cordon and search operation is on.
