Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), Jan 16 (ANI): Some 97 towns and cities located on the banks of Ganga discharge over 3.2 billion litres of untreated sewage into the river every day. A big challenge was taken up by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) to clean and rejuvenate the holy River with the launch of several projects. Among the new Sewage Treatment plants set up by NMCG is Salori STP near Bakshi Bandh in Prayagraj. The 14 MLD sewage treatment plant funded by NMCG was launched in 2016 with a total cost of Rs. 24.25 crores. The use of modern technology makes it treat the water as clean as it is suitable to discharge it back to River Ranga. Several projects launched by the National Mission for Clean Ganga are about to accomplish, which will help to completely stop the flow of untreated waste into River Ganga. However, public awareness will contribute largely to make the river clean. The river Ganges is considered sacred and is personified as the goddess Ganga. And, the sanctity of the river will only be maintained if it remains spotless. The river Ganges is considered sacred and is personified as the goddess Ganga.
