J&K Municipal Elections: Women participate in full swing

Udhampur (Jammu & Kashmir), Sep 28 (ANI): With an aim to increase women participation, Election Commission of India (ECI) has reserved wards for women in urban local body and have encouraged them to contest in the elections in Jammu and Kashmir. This has brought a beginning of a new era in Municipal Elections in Udhampur. Their participation in elections is paving a way for women empowerment. Sapna Kotwal, Deputy District Election Officer, Udhampur said, “As compared to earlier times, this time women are more enthusiastic towards participation in elections and I have received many female nominations this time. It is our efforts to make women aware of their participation in elections in terms of nominations and as voters.” One of the contestants said, “With women participating in elections, they would get to play a part in shaping society. The society will also realise their importance. We would try and address all grievances of people.”
