Light rains across Delhi expected to bring relief from smog

Updated:4 weeks ago IST

New Delhi, Nov 14 (ANI): Providing relief from the ever growing poisonous particulate matter in the air Delhiites were breathing since past few days, light rains lashed parts of Delhi on Tuesday night. In Delhi, poisonous microscopic particles have spiked to more than 10 times the level considered safe by the World Health Organisation (WHO) over the past few days. On Tuesday, a U.S. Embassy measure of tiny particulate matter PM 2.5 showed a reading of 301 at 10 a.m. when the safe limit is 50. The Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority had banned all construction activity and ordered use of sprinklers in the city until Nov. 12, although the ban made little difference to the air quality in the capital. Delhi’s air is among the worst in the world, although many in the city of more than 20 million are unable, or unwilling, to protect themselves from the cocktail of gases and particles.
