Markets in Punjab bustle with buyers ahead of Lohri

Amritsar (Punjab), Jan 11 (ANI): Markets have decked up in the Punjabi city of Amritsar as the occasion of the Punjabi folk festival of Lohri nears. Set to be celebrated on January 13, the preparations for the festival began way before time. Popped corn kernels are amongst the hottest selling items when it comes to sale of food items, followed by Indian snacks. Kites too are being customised in markets for the festival. Markets are bustling with buyers who are buying traditional items for their close relatives on the auspicious occasion. Lohri, primarily celebrated in the Punjab region by Sikhs and Hindus, marks the end of the winter season. Bonfire and folk songs are a major part of the celebration, and a Puja Parikrama around the bonfire is performed followed by the distribution of Prasad.
