Updated:1 month ago IST

Srinagar (Jammu & Kashmir), Sep 10 (ANI): Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said that her party will stay away from urban local body elections and panchayat elections. The former Chief Minister said, “Situation linking panchayat polls to 35A case in Supreme Court has created apprehensions in minds of people. Party therefore urges the Government to review its decision to hold polls at this juncture.” “It was therefore unanimously resolved that the party would stay away from the electoral exercise at this juncture,” Mufti added. Article 35A, which gives special rights to people in the state and bars outsiders from owning immovable property, has been challenged in the Supreme Court. In August, the apex court deferred the case till January 2019.
