People flock to markets amid ‘Navratri’ festivities

Guwahati/Rameswaram, Sep 25 (ANI): People in large numbers flocked to the markets in order to buy new clothes and idols of Goddess Durga during the ongoing ‘Navratri’ festival in Guwahati. Special stalls have been set up and new collection of clothes are available in the markets to attract customers who were seen coming in huge numbers. The religious celebration also kicked off in the ancient island of Rameswaram. The auspicious festival is celebrated for nine consecutive days. It is believed that the festival marks the victory of Goddess Durga over a demon named Mahishasura and epitomises the victory of good over evil.
