Politicos mourn Karunanidhi's demise

New Delhi, Aug 07 (ANI): Political circles were in deep sorrow after Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief Karunanidhi died on Tuesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "I have had the opportunity of interacting with Karunanidhi Ji on several occasions. His understanding of policy and emphasis on social welfare stood out. Firmly committed to democratic ideals, his strong opposition to the Emergency will always be remembered." Congress President Rahul Gandhi also tweeted, "Loved by the Tamilian people, Kalaignar strode the stage of Tamil politics, like a colossus, for over 6 decades. In his passing, India has lost a great son. My condolences to his family as also to the millions of Indians who grieve for their beloved leader tonight." Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, "He was the repository of federalism in India. He was harbinger of politics of deprived and politics of poor in Tamil Nadu." BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said, "He ran the party with an iron hand. He dominated Tamil Nadu and changed the narrative from cosmopolitan to Tamil." Janata Dal (Secular) president HD Deve Gowda said, "He is a standing example for all of us. No single person deserted him. He showed the path to regional parties."
