Imphal (Manipur), Jul 23 (ANI): Purna Ratha Yatra was being celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervor in Manipur’s Imphal. Large number of devotees had thronged Shri Shri Govindajee temple to participate in the Yatra. The colourful chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra were pulled by hundreds of devotees, amid the joyous chants of ‘Jai Jagannath’ and ‘Hare Krishna’. It is believed that whoever pulls the ropes will receive Moksha. The state wore a festive look with people buying flowers, fruits to offer to Lord Jagannath. The festival began in Manipur in the first part of the 19th century when the then Manipuri princes in exile witnessed the festival in other parts of India and introduced it in the state. Massive security arrangements have been made for the Yatra and thousands of police personnel have been deployed in the area.
